Snowboard Outerwear Design Technology

THE WESTBEACH PHILOSOPHY SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1979, HAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE TO MAKE BOMBER SNOWBOARD OUTERWEAR THAT WORKS IN THE MOST CHALLENGING OF CONDITIONS. AS TRENDS AND STYLES CONSTANTLY EVOLVE, SO TOO DOES OUR FOCUS ON OUTERWEAR DESIGN TECHNOLOGY.

WATERPROOFING BASICS
THESE ARE THE ESSENTIALS OF SNOWBOARD OUTERWEAR TECHNOLOGY THAT KEEP YOU DRY AND WARM.
Waterproofness
WATERPROOFNESS
Waterproofness is measured by applying water pressure to fabric to determine at what point fabric will begin to leak. Some methods include a water column test, the high hydraulic pressure test, or a Mullen Burst test. simply put, the higher the rating, the longer you can stay out in the elements.
Breathability
BREATHABILITY
To measure breathability, fabric is sealed around a container of moisture-absorbing calcium chloride (CaCl). The container is placed in a controlled environment and the evaporated CaCl is weighed over a 24 hour period. Measured as grams per sq. metre per 24 hours, the higher the numerical rating, the more breathable the fabric.
100% Seam Sealed
FULLY SEAM SEALED
Fully seam sealed garments have literally every seam waterproof taped to ensure than not a drop of water or a gust of wind get through the needle perforations of the seams or embroidery. All pants and all Summit and Elevation jackets are fully seam sealed.
Critically Seam Sealed
CRITICALLY SEAM SEALED
Critically seam sealed garments feature sealing in the most essential areas, allowing us to create garments suited to varying price-points without sacrificing performance standards. Critical seams include the hood, neck circumference, shoulders, armholes, and any upper chest design lines.
FABRIC RATINGS
WESTBEACH HAS ALWAYS ADOPTED ADVANCED FABRICS AHEAD OF THE CURVE, AND THIS YEAR IS NO EXCEPTION. TODAY’S TECHNOLOGY HELPS US KEEP YOU WARMER AND DRIER THAN EVER BEFORE
C_Change
C_CHANGE™
Featured exclusively in our Peak-to-Creek Jacket, C_Change™ from Schoeller® reacts to changing temperatures and activities, providing wind and waterproof moisture vapour permeability of the highest level. At high temperatures, or whilst riding, the structure of the C_Change™ membrane opens as body moisture levels rise. Excess heat can escape, keeping you cool. At low temperatures or during periods of inactivity, the structure of the membrane closes, retaining heat directly at the body.
Elevation
ELEVATION: 20,000mm / 20,000gm
Our highest rated fabric with 3 layers bonded to black mesh. Any day, anytime, any place you will be outside, Elevation fabrics will keep you dry, until you are ready to go home. No if, ands, or buts. True fact.
Summit
SUMMIT : 10,000mm / 10,000gm
Outstanding performance with a 10,000mm / 10,000gm waterproof and breathability rating. Summit fabrics are favoured by many of our riders and stand the test of time... after time, after time.
Basecamp
BASECAMP: 6,000mm / 6,000gm
Durable performance made to last long after you are washed up. With a performance rating of 6,000mm / 6,000gm, our Basecamp fabrics have got what it takes from the city to the hill.
Durable Waterproof Repellency (DWR)
DURABLE WATER REPELENCY (DWR)
Our Durable Water Repellency (DWR) fabric dispels rain and limits the uptake of stains as well. The wearability of these pieces combined with their 20/80 rating (meaning they retain 80% of their DWR coating after 20 washes), makes them a versatile choice in any season. In Vancouver, where we often get three seasons in one day, the weather is not considered a boring topic of conversation. Especially since our local weatherwoman, Tamara Taggart, is smoking hot.
INSULATION + LINING
SOME OF US FEEL THE COLD MORE THAN OTHERS SO WE MAKE MANY OF OUR JACKETS IN TWO VERSIONS, INSULATED AND NON-INSULATED. THE CHOICE IS YOURS
DOWN
Ever seen a cold goose? Hell no! Our 70/30 Canadian Standard Goose Down is light weight with excellent heat retention. Small pockets of air trapped in its fibres create a highly efficient thermal barrier between the body and the elements.
POLY-FILL
Poly-fill is a soft, lightweight, and breathable polyester insulation fill with excellent water repellency, compression and affordablilty to keep you dry in the coldest of conditions.
MESH LINING
Mesh linings help our two layer jackets wick away sweat and built up moisture. The mesh lining also protects the inner coating to make your jacket last longer and keep you dry.
BRUSHED TRICOT
We use brushed tricot in all our gear to keep you warm and to wick moisture away. It’s also soft as a baby’s ass making it great for pocket liners and emergency T.P. Enough said!
